Hair for Her: Before & After Donation

Although my heart pounded nervously on my way to the salon, after writing the "Preparing to Make the Cut" post, there was no turning back.

Friends, I did it! I donated 9.5" of my hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program this week. I chose them because their organization makes wigs specifically for women with cancer and I want to honor my incredible Auntie Melanie.

To my surprise, rather than crying I was losing my long locks, I laughed through the process. The beautician was so sweet and gentle with my hair as I told her about Aunt Melanie. I only got close to teary eyed when I thought about how much I miss her.

Be inspired by Melanie's cheerful courage during her fight with cancer. Here's a blog post where she talks about losing her hair.

Love you, Auntie Mel

  1. Wow, your hair was SOOOO long!!! I was expecting to see a "new you" with a cute bob or something... haha! Not so! The random person on the street is STILL going to think you have ridiculously long hair!

What a great cause, Crystalee! You seem to be full of good ideas lately ( :

    1. Thanks, Priscilla. I donated 14 inches six years ago, and it was the short bob cut you mentioned. It was dramatic enough of a cut I didn't want to go that short again! Thanks for reading and commentung, friend.

  3. Crystalee, so I've visited your blog two or three times now in the last two weeks and I just had to comment on this post! Congrats on making the cut :) It looks great. I've donated my hair twice now (21 inches donated in total) and I'm currently in the process of growing it out to do it all again. Have to admit I did cry the first time, haha. Enjoy less hair to maintain during the hot summer months. Also, I'm sure your Aunt Melanie is very pleased with how you've honored her life.
